I've always said that change happens in 3 phases-
Phase 1- Motivation/Momentum
Phase 2- You hit the wall
Phase 3- You got this
Did you know that when a rocketship flies to the moon it flies off course more 90% of the time? It is in a near constant state of self adjustment to reach it's goal...
In January most of us jump on the New Year/New You train in one form or another. So by February if our motivation has dwindled and our momentum has all but disappeared we can come up with a lot of resistance! I'm tired, it's hard, I'm not good enough...But that's not resistance, that is fear. Fear you'll fail. Fear you'll embarrass yourself, fear you don't have what it takes. You can get stuck even consumed in this resistance. Whatever your goal or vision or word was for 2019 I'd bet money you've hit the wall with it. Struggle, resistance, fear.
Good news is this is all perfectly normal! And a lot of it is biological! Why we picked the dead of winter to act like a spring chicken I'll never understand! (unless you live below the equator of course) Unlike Spring, we are indoors more and we have less energy (hibernation) naturally because there's less sunlight, and because of all this and more it can really mess with our mojo.
So how can we keep our commitment to change while fighting all this winter biology? Let's get back to the basics! The foundation of any good plan for change.
First, are you getting enough hydration? Did you know the first symptom of dehydration is fatigue? So if you are tired, ask yourself, are you drinking enough water? In the winter there is less humidity in the colder air so we can get dehydrated easily!
Next, are you getting enough sleep? Our body wants to follow the rhythm of the sun. Try adjusting your sleep cycle to be in more in flow with the sun going down and coming up, you might need more sleep than you realize in the winter. More down time before sleep is ideal. Shut off the screen time earlier in the winter because it gives our brain a false send of "light" and keeps us awake. Make extra time to snuggle, read or do a hobby in the winter. Great time to color!
What about your Spirit? Are you feeding your spirit? Winter is an internal time...and the perfect time for cultivating the habit of a morning ritual that connects you to spirit, serves your vision and raises your vibration. If you've worked with me at all you know I am a 10 minute morning devotee. I get my coffee, set my timer for 5-10 mins (usually10 now), get comfortable and get connected to myself and then spirit. I "run" my Chakras, (more on that later) but basically I wake them up by putting my attention on each of them and get them glowing and vibrating clearly. I then use this time to visualize love, abundance, my personal vision of success or whatever I am working on or is needed that day and prayers.
So as you can see self care is a huge part of Phase 2 when we hit resistence. So is mindset, the things we tell ourselves conciously or unconciously all day long. Mindset is a set of beliefs the mind is set on believing, true or not. It is a habit that largly goes unquestioned. This is where we address FEAR- False Evidence Appearing Real. So as part of breaking through resistance/fear we have to continually choose to not listen to negative thoughts (crap) our mind is telling us. Make a list of 5 things you're afraid of. Now make a list 15 reasons they are not true.
If you believe you can't, your'e right. If you believe you can, you're right. It's your choice. Choose You.
So cut the crap, make the adjustments, and let's do the damn thing!
